Pokémon 2000 The Movie: The Power of One

This movie starts with a small short called “Pikachu’s Rescue Adventure.” Unlike the short which accompanied Pokémon The First Movie, Pikachu’s Rescue Adventure contains substance as well as cuteness. It focuses, as the name suggests, on Pikachu’s adventure rescuing–Togepi! The short treats the viewer to Pikachu’s intelligence, bravery, and of course, cuteness. Like the first short, it goes out of its method to present a wide variety of Pokémon, including four unusual ones, which I understand are named Hoothoot, Ladyba, Bellossom and Elekid. Elekid, a original electric Pokémon, plays a major role after becoming friends with Pikachu through an exchange of electricity. (Hoothoot and Bellossom now have played considerable roles in episodes of Pokémon: The Johto Journeys on television as well.) You’ll even finally bag to look a Snorlax do something other than eat and sleep!

The Power of One itself seems substantially less black than its precursor, yet manages to outdo the First Movie’s record of MewTwo versus Mew. The Power of One Introduces us to a unique Pokémon, a worthy Guardian of the Water named Lugia which is nearly as tall as the three legendary birds–Moltres, Zapdos and Articuno–combined. It’s also nearly as much as the three combined. I say “nearly” because, according to an traditional prophecy, without the encourage of the Chosen One all of its efforts to terminate the three from fighting will approach to nothing, “making the world turn to ash.” And who should be the Chosen One? Well, as Misty realizes, the prophecy DOES say that the world will “turn to Ash.”

As an added limited bonus, the movie finally provides first names for Professors Oak and Ivy, and for Mrs. Ketchum, Ash’s mom. It also gives two uproarious, albeit non-speaking cameo appearances by the novel companion of Ash and Misty–Brock the Rock. Fans of Brock, myself included, may gain his puny role disappointing. Fans of Tracey, Brock’s replacement, may also be disappointed at his shrimp role in The Power of One. Moltres fans might be disappointed that he isn’t a good-guy like he was in his one appearance in the TV series, and at the design he’s been drawn for the movie. Misty fans, however, will revel in her pivotal role.

Team Rocket fans, perpetually hoping to accumulate their heroes playing a role other than that of the inept butt of jokes, will bag their hopes finally realized. Team Rocket too plays a pivotal role in The Power of One, gain it or not, deliberately and through the creativity of Jesse, James and Meowth! Ah Team Rocket, we always knew your tendency to “mediate outside the box” would pay off one day.

In addition to Lugia and Team Rocket’s effectiveness, the movie offers something else new: a original Pokémon called Slowking. Slowking, the final evolved originate of Slowpoke and Slowbro, resembles a Slowbro, but with the spiral Shellder on its head rather than on its tail. Best of all, the Slowking can sing. When you hear what he has to say, you’ll be jubilant he can. Lugia’s no gallop at communication either–like MewTwo, he objective psychically speaks in Ash’s head. Clean, huh?

The Power of One offers an astonishing spectacle of color and animation. The movie produces vibrant images, color and sound. I found the music expedient too, although I must warn you that as with the first movie, most of the songs on the soundtrack appear only over the closing credits and have runt to do with the movie itself. At least more of the songs from the this soundtrack seem at least generally related to Pokémon. You will definitely want to contemplate the closing credits, however, both to hear “Uncommon” Al Yankovic’s “Polkamon” song and to study the second, hysterically-funny, cameo appearance by Brock. If you like Pokémon you will like this movie; your cramped Pokémaniac (either the one you tuck into bed at night or the one hiding inside you) will worship it.

Many people criticized “Mewtwo Strikes Support” when the first Pokemon movie was released in the US, because in comparison with the genuine Japanese version it was a mess, missing out necessary things that explained about the characters (such as The Birth Of Mewtwo), and it had sloppy characterization.

However, I’m elated to say that this film is generally mighty better than the first Pokemon movie. The spot involves a Pokemon collector called Laurence III who wants to hold the three Legendary birds Articuno. Zapdos and Moltres – or the Gods of Ice, Lightning and Fire as they’re called here. Unfortunately, this creates a immense jam with Earth’s weather patterns, causing violent storms and snow, and it is left up to Ash to catch them benefit, and return things to normal.

There are some minute hints to the possibility of an Ash/Misty romance in this film – when Ash arrives on the island at the beginning of the movie, a girl called Melody kisses Ash on the cheek which makes Misty really jealous, as well as some other cute moments.

Sadly, in spite of an improved situation I absorb that, as before, the choice of music stands out as the film`s downfall and the producers haven`t learnt from the mistakes they made in the first film. Apart from a few exceptions (“The Record Comes To Life” is a improbable track), this movie replicates the same pop-styled rubbish worn in the First Movie. The remix of the TV theme song (“Pokemon World” performed by Youngstown & Nobody’s Angel) is absolutely bad, with a scratchy beat and synthesized vocals. The campaign to ban vocoders starts here…

Next time round, I would like to behold a better choice of music which is less pop-orientated, but I`m not holding my breath…

Overall though, in spite of the dreadful soundtrack, this is a major improvement on the First Movie which I assume any Pokemon fan should add to their collection.

These nature films, if you could acquire them at all, were previously only on VHS. I had already seen two of the films on the spot on VHS, “The Vanishing Prairie” and “The Living Desert”, and I was amazed how these dilapidated films from the 50′s had such noble cinematography considering the times. Now on DVD, these films have been cleaned up even more, and the video is not hard on the eyesight at all. 30 years before the Discovery Channel, it is truly fabulous to glimpse what Disney was doing in the realm of nature films.

“Seal Island”, produced in 1949, is known as Disney’s first nature documentary and runs 26 minutes. It studies animal life on Seal Island, which is a miniature island in the Bering Sea. The life cycle of the seals is the dominant theme, of course, although the documentary talks about the other animal residents of the island too. Because it was Disney’s first attempt at a nature documentary, it is awkward at spots. It tends to come by very wearisome at one point, and then picks up the tempo with a bloody battle between feuding male seals fighting for dominance that tends to be a bit graphic.

“The Living Desert” won the Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary in 1953, and its theme is a day in the wildlife of the American desert southwest. On the funny side, the best scene involves a couple of square-dancing scorpions, and on the dramatic side the best scene is probably a fight between a tarantula and a wasp. The commentary is well done, but some people might regain it fair a bit too jokey at points. It runs 70 minutes.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Walt Disney Legacy Collection – True Life Adventures, Vol. 2! Click Here

“The Vanishing Prairie” also won the Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary in 1954 and runs 71 minutes. Again, the photography is beneficial, but the narration is depressing and the conclusions no longer correct. Thanks to ecology minded films such as this one, efforts were started to succor insure that the prairie and its wildlife don’t fade. Thus its overall message is best taken in a historical context. There are some immense shots of prairie dogs that will remind you quite a bit of Meerkat Manor. Other featured animals include bighorn sheep, the Pronghorn antelope, mountain lions, coyotes, and buffalo.

“Nature’s Strangest Creatures” (1959), is the shortest of the films at only 15 minutes in length. It focuses on the wildlife of Australia 35 years before the Crocodile Hunter made these creatures more familiar to us all. Animals shown besides the requisite kangaroo include the giant bat, flying squirrel, and the duck-billed platypus.

“Islands of the Sea” (1960), was nominated for an Academy Award for that year. This 28-minute film discusses and photographs the wildlife on the islands of Galapagos, Guadelupe, the Falklands, and Midway. Of course, they display the turtles of the Galapagos, and also the penguins of the Falklands. Although overall the film focuses more on birds, there is also quite a bit on the reptile inhabitants of these islands. One of the funniest segments include a penguin attempting to “bid” and an albatross attempting a clumsy landing in what had to be one of its less resplendent moments.

The extras include “Backstage with Roy Disney at Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Desert Insects”, which actually is more of a retrospective on Roy’s movie career than anything else. “Backstage with Roy Disney at Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Snakes” focuses on the Orlando Animal Kingdom theme park and its snakes. “Filmmakers’ Journal” is very provocative for those of us who wondered how the filmmakers accompished some of the shots they got in the making of the five featured films. This 40 tiny bonus allotment talks extensively with people who actually worked on the films and they direct you how clear shots were obtained and talk about various tricks that were employed. “Collectors’ Corner” is a short three dinky portion in which Disney artist and historian Stacia Martin shares some promotional items tied to the DVD’s films. “Trailers & Promos” is the aptly named part on the recent trailers and promos for the five featured films, both when they were shown on TV and in the theatres.

This is a truly huge collection of nature films. You’ll probably spy in each of them the basic Disney “formula” for such films – They generally blended very estimable photography and narration on the overall wildlife being spotlighted. Mixed with that will be numerous comic moments with animals doing what appear to humans as crazy stunts along with dramatic predator/prey moments and wildlife fight scenes that often demolish up in tragedy for one of the animals fervent. On top of this, each of the films is well scored, with the music matching the mood of the scene being shown. Highly recommended.

At least two of the films, Living Desert and Vanishing Prairie, are rotund length and were Academy Award winners. At the time(1950′s) nature photography was quite difficult with tremendous, heavy, stout cameras, long before the National Geographic channel or Animal Planet. So these films are literally the ground floor of nature photography. I am expecting a improbable residence, restoring the new color and sound. When I saw them in the 70′s the color had already metamorphed into green skies, for example. Disney has promised us a tubby restoration. Do you remember seeing the tarantula and the birth of a buffalo calf? Through it all we have the astonishing humor of Winston Hibler’s narration. I can’t wait!

Erik Bruhn and Carla Fracci were one of the most illustrious dance partnerships, and it’s our fine fortune that one of their “trademarks,” Giselle, was preserved for posterity. (I mean, imagine how frosty it would have been to have a video of Nijinsky and Karsavina dancing together.)

Both Bruhn and Fracci are better in the first act than the second. Fracci’s radiance and beauty acquire her an spirited village lass. You can spy why Albrecht would drop in care for. And I fancy the shrimp touches Fracci puts in her exasperated scene. Instead of letting her hair tumble down completely (like most Giselles) Fracci simply loosens one strand of hair from her bun. As she runs around the stage the bun becomes messier and messier. There are also dependable tears flowing from her delicate face. Erik Bruhn has a stiff, aristocratic bearing that’s also very appropriate for this role.

Unfortunately, I dont contemplate Fracci and Bruhn are as tremendous in the second “Wili” act. The second act is supposed to be about Albrecht’s redemption. Bruhn doesn’t display grand in the scheme of remorse — he’s unexcited the stiff wonderful of Act 1. I also contain a Giselle with Rudolf Nureyev as Albrecht and with Nureyev you can inspect the remorse and ardor. The second act also exposes some flaws in Fracci’s technique. At the begin of the pas de deux one notices that her developpe is not very solid, for one. Her balances are a bit shaky. But emotionally I also didnt warm to Fracci’s Giselle in Act 2. Fracci chooses to effect her somewhat wintry and remote, with a ghostly pale-powdered face and stern expression. It’s principal to remember that Giselle is *not yet a Wili.* Her spirit is quiet filled with savor. I didn’t peep enough tenderness in Fracci’s Giselle.

The thing about this film that *really* bugs me though is the blueprint it was directed. The director Hugo Nieberling decided to be “cute” and shoot the movie somewhat like a music video. Tilted angle shots, unfamiliar cut-aways from the dancers to a basket of grapes, and a exclusive, long-take fixation on the backsides of some horses. It gave me a headache. I belief this nonsense would kill in Act 2, but nope. Nieberling cuts away from the dancing of Giselle, Albrecht, Hilarion, and the Wilis to shoot their *reflections* in a pond.

Unfortunately, Giselle seems to be like Odette/Odile in that ballerinas, even the greatest ones, tumble into the “either/or” category. Natalia Makarova, for instance, is hauntingly resplendent in Act 2, but she lacks the wholesome joie de vivre to be entirely convincing in Act 1.

I hate this film. What should have been a ravishing opportunity to select Fracci and Bruhn in their signature partnership is ruined by the meddlesome and ignorant direction of Hugo Niebeling and David Blair. Giselle is a ballet; ballet is about dance; dance should be the focus of attention. We should have unobstructed views of the dancers dancing. Instead, we earn shots through villagers eating and talking, shots from above, shots from the side, shots through machinery, shots reflected in pools, and so on – absolutely infuriating, unartistic, and puerile. What a shame and a sham! What a gigantic misunderstanding of art!

I bought this item and found it a total disappointment. The reasons being, it’s not HD Quality. Let me elaborate. I bought this expecting the same refining and color conversion as the previous 2 blu-ray releases. When I watched the “History of Trunks” there was a plethora of grain clouding the narrate. The colors were not intellectual. It did not even contemplate as well-behaved as Season releases of Dragonball Z on Remastered Dvd. Sustain in mind this is blu-ray, it’s scream to consume it a step higher!

Now the second Movie feature “Bardock: Father of Goku” looked a lot better a ton of grain was removed but is not up to specks as the last 2 releases, but I can call it HD. Unfortunatly what dissappointed me the most was what the Blu-ray box said. If you have a chance to go to the store and discover on the wait on screen of Blu-Ray box, you will inspect information on sound quality. You will look these selections:

*Original Japanese

When you go to the peep the setup menu The dolby TruHD with U.S. Music is not there instead you will discover Stereo 2.0 . Also known as counterfeit advertisement.

How do you go from TruHD to Stereo that’s like getting 10 cents instead of a dollar or a bike instead of a car. Approach on! Yeah Japanese film masters (whatever!)

Overall they slacked off on this last prodject and if they hold it up I will boycott it.

Please your better off getting the Dvd Version and have an upconverter do the work for you.

If you don’t gain me rent it!!!

If by some reason I got a poor copy somebody affirm me Please!

The 4 star rating comes from objective the movies themselves – both are mountainous. It seems like all Funimation did to transfer any of the DBZ movies to HD was increase the default brightness. When the explanation of how the Broly movie was transferred to HD came on, it compared the original footage to the unique Japanese footage, and the unique Footage looked better. In my understanding, the movies are impartial better off bought on DVD(at least so far – The Tree of Might may be different) . If you want anime on blu-ray assign it for Jin-Roh or Akira.

Ah Rossini…! The sincere inventor of the assembly line. That Ford fellow was impartial a copycat. One-size-fits-all overtures. Arias you deliver you’ve heard before (you did) . This production of Rossini’s steal on Cinderella, another filmed Opera from Director Jean-Pierre Ponnelle, is heavenly. A joy from beginning to extinguish. Frederica von Stade is intellectual in the role of Cenerentola. Literally incandescent. Ponnelle illuminates her for grand of this film as if he were a graduate of the Spielberg school of backlighting. In fact he backlights unbiased about everything and everyone, sooner or later. Filmed in 1981, (Spielberg had made that technique ubiquitous befriend then), La Cenerentola had me searching for ET in the long shots. Yet, oddly enough it works. It is a fairy account, after all.

The Overture has the camera weaving through the empty lobby of La Scala, fixing on the marble statues of noted Italian composers. From there it meanders into the theater and finally the stage. The film records a virtual “La Scala” (it isn’t, though) staged performance without an audience. Yet it seems larger, and occasionally it does begin up to a larger station. The sets are lovely. Every visual element has been carefully chosen to emphasize beauty. This is a attractive film, thoroughly delightful unprejudiced for it’s beautiful excellence!

But there’s a beautifully performed Opera here, as well. The youthful Von Stade is a splendid heroine. Her singing is astonishing, her roar lighter than Cecilia Bartoli’s smokey mezzo found on her DVD of Cenerentola; now that I have both singers, it is moving to compare the two.

Francisco Araiza is Don Ramiro and Claudio Desderi is Dandini. Paulo Montarsolo sings Don Magnifico. Margherita Guglielmi sings Clorinda. Paul Plishka is Alidoro. The entire cast is valid. The Chorus and Orchestra of La Scala, under the direction of the Conductor Claudio Abbado, live and breath this music. They have that authentic Rossini sound new to native Italians. Nevertheless, they often create with manic energy; as if this were the first time they were inhabiting Rossini’s sound world.

The DTS 5.1 sound is crystalline and pudgy. The record is well-nigh perfect, as befits a film that’s been digitally remastered.

As usual, Ponnelle recorded the music first in January 1981, then had the singers lip sync for the filmed performance in Vienna during August & September that same year. Thus, the singers can focus on their acting; not where the next sign is coming from. This works for me, for what it’s worth, but purists may not like it. I mediate the film’s beauty and lofty production values can overcome any obstacle. My strongest possible recommendation for this superbly performed and beautifully filmed La Cenerentola from Director Jean-Pierre Ponnelle and a tremendous cast and Orchestra under Claudio Abbado!

Mike Birman

Cenerentola has been served well on DVD, with four stunning productions available, but Ponnelle’s film (spot somewhere come the Victorian dwelling, given the costumes) is truly an achievement. It’s incredibly comic, has spacious musical values and is also very, very touching. A few of the jokes misfire, (I could do with less of the sister’s squealing), but the production, filmed in and around La Scala, is wonderfully innovative. During the overture, we secure a tour of the La Scala house and lobby, with it’s statues of astronomical Italian Composers singled out, especially that of Rossini (of course) . This is a fairy record with a genuinely pleased ending, by the plan, and it’s exquisitely staged: The Magnificos, who have ancient extravagant clothing and hair-dos throughout, appear at the wedding in Victorian grey, looking dead and penitent, only to be forgiven by a dewy-eyed Von Stade. The Sisters rupture down in tears, and Magnifico is wonderfully and genuinely humbled and forgiven. The scene is nowhere come as touching on the other videos.

Frederica Von Stade’s radiant Cinderella brought tears to my eyes with her performance of the finale: it’s a testament to her skill that this was not her most eminent role. It doesn’t injure, of course, that she is a salubrious beauty. My Celebrated moments: the witness on her face as Cenerontola Discovers fancy in the Prince’s Valet and then her fantastic, astounding smile as she relives the ball and strokes the bracelet on her arm (only to shroud it, with obliging funny timing, when her family comes help.) As her Prince Charming, Don Ramiro, Francisco Ariaza is in stunning hiss. His falling-in-love duet with Von Stade has to be heard to be believed, and his mammoth aria goes over very well.

Paolo Montarsolo’s Magnifico is simply the best on disk or video. His singing and diction are impeccable and his Mugging is less evident and more appropriately handled than in his performance as Basilio and Bartolo in Ponnelle’s films of BARBIERE and NOZZE DI FIGARO Films. His Magnifico is both a cruel man, but he’s not a buffoon and there’s a something sympathetic about his downfall. His nearly-silent work in the finale shows that there was mighty more to his skill as a singing actor than being comical.

He matches wits with Claudio Desderi, an Superb Dandini. Chubby-Faced and expressive, (he bares a passing resemblance to Dom DeLuise) he’s an beneficial musician and very silly. His opening ballad and ensemble features a wonderfully held line, superb coloratura and impeccable patter. He appears as Magnifico on another video, but his work is nowhere advance as respectable as it is here.

Paul Plishka is given an expanded role as Alidoro, who observes remarkable of the antics of the other characters silently. He sings his aria well, and is provided with the production’s one major departure from tradition. Usually, On the line “Stare, and peek who I am”, Alidoro takes off his begger disguise and reveals his rich clothing. Here, Alidoro is already in his court dress, and on the aforementioned line, he points to the statue of Rossini, which comes to life. Plishka appears made up very convincingly as Rossini and, at one point, appears on cover with (and duets with) himself, as Alidoro appears to drive Cenerentola off to the ball.

The Sisters (Maria Guglielmi and Laura Zannani) both shriek well and are very humorous, though, as I said before, I could do without grand of their squealing (which is not in the accumulate) .

Abbado repeats his comely work from his CD position (the Magnifico family are also the same) . A moral Rossian, his work is impeccable with an irreproachable sense of style and race, making the all-important ensembles work like polished clockwork. Even without the visual aspect, this is one of the finest CENERENTOLAS on characterize. If the soundtrack to this film was released, I’d retract it in a second.

This film, by the method, makes an sterling companion to the Saltzburg Festival video with Ann Murray. Murray is nearly on Von Stade’s level as a Cenerentola, Ariaza repeats his performance (if not in as original a jabber), and plays Ramiro with an furious rush. Gino Quilico is wonderful without approaching the colorful Desderi as Dandini, and Walter Berry, while not on stable ground vocally, is a cross Don Magnifico with very microscopic that’s humorous about him, an inviting and appropriate characterization that counter-points Montarsolo’s interestingly. There is an glowing (both physically and vocally) pair of sisters and Wolfgang Schone, a big Alidoro. Either of these Versions would be proud assets to a collection, but I would never want to be without Montarsolo, Von Stade, Desderi and Abbado.

Sony/TriStar does a better job on this double-feature disc of two of the 1990s Godzilla films than they did on the dreadful disc of “Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah/Godzilla and Mothra: Battle for Earth.” This time the films are in widescreen and stereo. Unfortunately, they are collected dubbed (and very poorly, too), and the waste credits are unexcited chopped off, but I can at least recommend buying this disc for its improved visual and audio quality.

(In a side heed, Sony/TriStar has impartial made available three of the unusual Godzilla films in widescreen editions with 5.1 sound and a choice of English dub or Japanese with subtitles: “Godzilla vs. Megaguirus,” “Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack,” and “Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla.” They may also release the two film on the this DVD in individual, deluxe packages, so you may want to wait a bit before deciding to bewitch up this disc.)

However, I can only recommend one film on this disc, the terrific “Godzilla vs. Destoroyah,” which brings a conclusion to the 1990s `Heisei’ series of Godzilla films in an apocalyptic legend that links support to the unique 1954 “Godzilla.” Godzilla’s radioactive heart has started to melt down, a condition that threatens to extinguish the entire planet. The military scrambles to glean a arrangement to prevent the demolish of the world, while psychic Miki tries to track down Godzilla’s son, now a tough teen who looks like a half-sized Godzilla. And on top of all this, a modern creature has suddenly appeared, born out of the weapon that killed the modern Godzilla aid in 1954: the mutating crustacean/dragon beastie Detoroyah. The action is plentiful, as are the effects, and the film objective thunders along. It’s everything you want in a Godzilla film. Godzilla Jr. facing the crab-leg version of Destoroyah is one of the gigantic monster fights, the finale at the airport is intellectual, and the ending is heartbreaking. It’s a substantial map to extinguish the second Godzilla series. If this film stood on its bear, I’d give it five stars, easily.

In fact, it’s best that you don’t deem of this disc as a double-feature at all, but a single disc containing “Godzilla vs. Destoroyah,” with “Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla” as a bonus feature. Because “SpaceGodzilla” is Abominable. Made moral before “Detoroyah” by a unusual director who came out of Japanese teen films, “SpaceGodzilla” is tiresome and utterly funny. Godzilla Jr. looks like Barney the dinosaur, SpaceGodzilla is a ridiculously lumbering thing, and the military’s modern super-robot, MOGUERA (based on a robot from the 1957 film “The Mysterians”), looks like some kid’s transformer toy, only not as well constructed and with Woody Woodpecker’s head. The position is sloppy — something about SpaceGodzilla imprisoning Godzilla Jr. while a conspiracy almost wrecks the anti-Godzilla team called G-force — and the performers view bored. The substantial action sequences seem to go on forever while nothing happens. The finale is impartial Godzilla and SpaceGodzilla standing far away and roaring at each other, while the military fiddles endlessly with their useless machines. The special effects are bad and idle as well. Not even Godzilla fans will be able to tolerate this film for long. On it’s fill, “Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla” is worth only one star, easily. So I’ll have to average my rating out and give this package three stars.

I recommend this disc for “Godzilla vs. Destoroyah,” which is large even in dubbed format. Contemplate the other film, positive, but believe of it as a bonus not factored into the notice. You’ll feel better that diagram, and $16.99 is a comely aesthetic heed for a noble, widescreen, stereo Godzilla film. (But sustain your fingers crossed for even better editions in the future.)

The release contains 2 films on one disc – on Side A 1994′s “Godzilla vs. Place Godzilla”, and on Side B 1995′s “Godzilla vs. Destroyer” (using the title “Godzilla vs. Destoryah” since “Destroyer” can’t be copyrighted) . Both sides were beautiful even when it came to video quality. I’ll inaugurate with the distinct which is, unlike Sony’s previous attempt with “Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah/Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle For Earth”, that the disc presents the films in their novel 1.85:1 widescreen ratio, and features anamorphic enhancement. Sadly however, both films, especially “Godzilla vs. Area Godzilla”, enjoy a heavy amount of grain and print harm, and a attractive bit of artifacting too. There was also a lot of discolouration and brightness issues too. You’ve gained one thing, but lost another.

AUDIO QUALITY:

One very basic setup, Toho’s international English dubbing in Dolby 2.0. Like Sony’s previous release, it generally sounds gorgeous sterling, with no distortion or other issues. It would have been nice to contemplate a unique 5.1 remix or the new Japanese soundtrack, but alas.

EXTRA FEATURES:

Absolutely nothing, unfortunately.

OVERALL:

For everything Sony did factual with “Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah/Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle For Earth” they did contemptible with this, and vice versa. This release has the bonus of being in anamorphic widescreen, but looses extra features and the intellectual image quality the previous release had. It’s a simple barebones disc for those that want the film on DVD, but perfectionists will really need to peruse elsewhere.

These movies were even better than I remembered them. Owen Wilson is humorous and charming, and Jackie Chan is as fabulous as ever.

I like action movies with some humor and these fit the bill. I’m not into martial arts for itself and had bought Shanghai Noon on VHS mainly because Owen Wilson was in it and I like his comedy. The combination of him with Chan is, at least in these two movies, irresistible. I don’t know about anyone else, but these are gigantic movies for me.
