I grew up and now proudly contain Transformers Gen 1 collection. With Armada it introduces the “minicons” very noteworthy slight robots that add power to the already distinguished Autobots and Decepticons. I did not carry out watching this series, but am looking foward for season 1 piece 2 box spot. The G1 throwback I found to be the most challenging about this series was that even the Powerful Unicron was resurrected for this series.

Set sometime in the future, the Transformers gape the power of the Mini-Cons, and situation out to net the puny robots that can increase their power. Whichever side becomes more noteworthy via the Mini-Cons has the power to derive the war between the Autobots and Decepticons. The twist is, that the only earthlings who know that the Transformers are on Earth are Rad, Carlos, and Alexis, three kids who rep the first hibernating Mini-Con and gape a battle between Optimus Prime and Megatron.

Although this series can be a petite campy at times, it is a titanic addition to the Transformers storyline, featuring a lot of enormous throwbacks and references to previous generations. As the series goes on, it gets better and better, with the storylines becoming deeper and more alive to.

My kids appreciate these, but I really didn’t need second copies!!!

Both my nine year broken-down daughter and my seven year stale daughter like this DVD. The only complaint I have about it is that I had no thought how to play both movies until my older daughter turned the DVD upside down and inserted it into the player and then the other movie worked! I don’t mediate I would ever have figured that one out.

Both of these movies are extremely lively and great for the entire family. The Apple Dumpling Gang is better than its sequel due to the interactions of all of the major stars. Susan Clark is top-notch as Dusty, and Bill Bixby is fantastic and believable as Donovan. The children do an great job and appear to have pleasant on cover presence. I would recommend it for children of all ages, including adults who are young at heart.

The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again is great, but it relies more on slapstick than the first movie. You miss the parts of Dusty and Donovan and the children. It is also a dinky confusing that Harry Morgan plays in both productions, but plays two separate characters. They could have said that he was the Justice of the Peace’s twin brother or a survey alike relative. Of course he always does an apt performance in whatever section he plays.

This expansive DVD package combines two of Disney’s classic movies – The Apple Dumpling Gang and The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again. The movies document the careers of Amos Tucker (played by Tim Conway) and Theodore Ogelvie (Don Knotts), two of the most incompetent outlaws to hurry the Traditional West.

In The Apple Dumpling Gang, cardsharp and conman Russel Donovan (Bill Bixby) is conned into taking on three children. But, when they involve Amos and Theodore in his life, things hastily go from awful to worse.

In The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again, Amos and Theodore reach out of retirement, lawful in time to tumble afoul of Marshal Woolly Bill Hitchcock (Kenneth Mars), who is certain to terminate the Apple Dumpling Gang tiresome in its tracks…literally. So, where can they cloak?

Overall, I found these to be two mammoth movies. The Apple Dumpling Gang has a better defined status, and Bill Bixby and Susan Clark do an wonderful job of providing a romantic, if not entirely serious, side to the movie. The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again is indeed more slapstick – Don Knotts and Tim Conway stole the first movie, and as such they are given free rein in this one – perhaps too considerable, as the movie does seem to have a worthy less cohesive location than the first.

But, no matter how you slash it, this is a gargantuan DVD residence, one that is distinct to please the family. As a matter of fact, beyond the two movies there is a spacious Goofy cartoon – Two Gun Goofy. Yeah, this is a mountainous DVD position, one that should be in the library of every family with young one around…or even those honest young at heart. My family and I really enjoyed this area, and we highly recommend it to you and your family.

Filmmaker Hiroshi Teshigahara was a upright artiste who saw film as one of several creative outlets, which is why the sum of his cinematic output feels relatively paltry compared to his contemporaries. As judged by these works, Teshigahara seems far enthusiastic more in spirited a viewer’s sensibilities with movies that confound as considerable as they resonate. The results were not always successful, but they are well worth experiencing.

The first film of the state, 1962′s “Pitfall” (****), represents Teshigahara’s debut as a feature filmmaker and is both an expressionistic ghost anecdote and a scathing social critique of Japan’s post-WWII labor conditions within the mining industry. The mystery-laden space focuses on a terrible coal miner, who is murdered in front of his young son after animated to a ghost town where the local mine becomes a battleground between the two unions that rush it. The miner’s ghost attempts to solve the crime and figure out the motive, all the while as mistrust permeates the community with more deaths occurring. The filmmaker’s social agenda sometimes gets in the plot of a corking detective chronicle, but he also presents a haunting, often surreal allegory of social alienation and apt bankruptcy. Hisashi Igawa lends a palpable desperation to the doomed miner, while Kunie Tanaka cuts an appropriately austere figure as the unavoidable stranger in the white suit.

An international art house hit that even garnered Oscar nominations, 1964′s “Woman in the Dunes” (*****) is the set’s centerpiece and a deserving masterpiece. The highly symbolic yarn focuses on an amateur entomologist on what he thinks is a day move from Tokyo to a seaside location with mammoth sand dunes. As he looks for a particular beetle that he thinks will bring him fame within scientific circles, he loses track of time, and local villagers approach upon him. For overnight lodging, they steal him to a woman who lives in the bottom of a sand pit reachable only by a rope ladder. With the ladder gone the next morning, it dawns on him that he is being held captive by the villagers. From this revelation, Teshigahara and Abe focus on how the man deals with the station and his evolving feelings toward the woman. Eiji Okada (Hiroshima Mon Amour, The Frightful American) dominates every scene as the emotionally volatile entomologist evolving from sexist entitlement to humiliating desperation to still resignation. As the woman, the offbeat-looking Kyôko Kishida initially seems to be playing Friday to Okada’s Robinson Crusoe, but her character starts to explain layers that startle and enjoy in indispensable station details. The film’s overall unnerving tone makes it feel often like an extended episode of a Twilight Zone.

The third film presented is 1967′s “The Face of Another” (***1/2), which provides some unsettling sci-fi elements in its piercing exploration of identity, personal freedom and social acceptance. It’s probably the most dauntless of the three films, but Teshigahara’s overly stylized arrive makes it arguably the least satisfying on an emotional level. That’s because the well-known characters feel somewhat removed from reality starting with an embittered burn victim named Okuyama, his face completely bandaged. He has an oddly co-dependent relationship with his psychiatrist, who gives him a prosthetic camouflage that allows him to commence his life anew. However, Okuyama’s emotionally isolated wife returns into his life, and the inevitable complications occur. Meanwhile, there is a parallel sage centered on a young woman who bears a great radiation burn on her face, a victim of the atomic bomb dropped in Nagasaki. Her wish is to conform wither surroundings and be celebrated, which makes for an captivating counterpoint to Okuyama’s problem. Tatsuya Nakadai (Harakiri, Ran, When a Woman Ascends the Stairs) plays the involving role of Okuyama with effective menace and miserable, and as his wife, the legendary Machiko Kyô (Rashomon, Ugetsu, Floating Weeds) lends an pleasing but tangible sense of concealment to her relatively few scenes.

Each film benefits greatly from Tôru Takemitsu’s mood-setting music impressive for the versatility he displays with each salvage. The four relatively modest shorts provide variable interest to aficionados – 1953′s “Hokusai” spotlights the renowned block artist; 1956′s “Ikebana”, a color film which shows the hard-earned artistry found in his father’s school; 1958′s “Tokyo 1958″, an peculiar curio designed to point to the vibrancy of the city at the time; and 1965′s “Ako”, a simple short about a girl’s night on the town. Finally, there is a fifty-page booklet that provides further insight into a filmmaker more than helpful of rediscovery.

This box status by Criterion contains three films on four discs.

The first film Pitfall, released in Japan as, Otoshiana, is about a man who dies and becomes a ghost.

The second film Woman in the Dunes, released in Japan as, Suna no onna, is about an entomologist who misses his bus benefit to town. He is offered a plot to pause for the night which is in a sand pit accessible only by ladder. The widow who lives there then holds him captive.

The third film, The Face of Another, released in Japan as, Tanin no kao, is about a man whose face is disfigured in a fire who is given a realistic camouflage by a doctor.

Each of these films, especially Woman in the Dunes is salubrious. I have been waiting for Criterion to release Woman in the Dunes for several years.

The release contains an entire disc of special features too. There are video essays on each film by movie critic, James Quandt. Also there is a documentary about Teshigahara and his colleague Kobo Abe. Finally Four short films Hiroshi Teshigahara directed are included. They are Hokusai, Ikebana, Tokyo 1958, and Ako/White Morning (1963)

Here’s another disc in the very nicely done Bob Hope Tribute Collection. Again we have trailers and production notes, plus cast and crew bios. Two features for the stamp of one is always a marvelous deal, and this installment in the dwelling does not disappoint, with two classic Hope pictures, “Sad Jones” and “The Paleface”.

Of the two (beget it or not), “Heart-broken Jones” is the dependable keeper. “The Paleface” is certainly more renowned, and pleasing comical in its have factual as Bob plays a cowardly correspondance school dentist making his plot across the Extinct West. However, the other feature hits the imprint every time, while “The Paleface” tends be a bit uneven.

On the other hand, “The Paleface” is pure farce, and introduces the song “Buttons and Bows” (sung here by Bob), that became a rupture hit for Dinah Shore. Film fans should be on the lookout for an appearance by Iron Eyes Coty, forever famed as the Native American who sheds a go in that classic environmental awareness ad from the 1970′s. Jane “Wrong Your Heart Bra” Russell plays Calamity Jane, who marries Bob so she can find a lead on some gun runners. The film spawned a sequel four years later (“Son of Paleface”), and was later remade with Don Knotts as “The Shakiest Gun in the West”.

“The Paleface” is also available as a stand-alone disc in the location, albeit with more bonus features. Frankly, I don’t understand why Universal establish the film on two discs when one would do, but there it is, anyway.

“Melancholy Jones” is the second film version of “Limited Miss Marker”, a Damon Runyon epic. The unusual film made Shirley Temple a star. Taking over the role in this one is Mary Jane Saunders (playing Martha Jane Smith), who all but steals the film from Bob Hope! Lucille Ball is along for the slide, playing a nightclub singer who helps Bob in caring for the kid. Meanwhile, the unpleasant guy (Bruce Cabot), is trying to fix a stout horse bustle, and kills off the kid’s father in order to retain the secret.

“Poor Jones” is the better record here probably because it’s a bit more serious and/or sentimental. An unbelievable scene has Bob instructing Martha Jane on how to pray, and I can’t remember seeing a scene that more clearly defines the cultural differences in films of yesterday from those of today. Talk about ancient fashioned values! Bob lays it all out for the kid in a simple and affecting diagram that’s certain to discontinue with you.

Like the other discs in the position, this one is a satisfactory bargain, and a disc you’ll be delighted to fill.

The Bob Hope Tribute Collection has many of his early films. This disc contains two films, Downhearted Jones with his first partnering with Lucille Ball and The Paleface with his first partnering with Jane Russell.

Most people will behold Depressed Jones by the more favorite name of Runt Miss Marker. This is one of the most adapted of Damon Runyon’s stories. This is one of the more faithful adaptations.

Sorrowful (Bob Hope) is a bookie on Broadway. Gladys O’Neill (Lucille Ball) is an old-fashioned flame who is seeing gangster Tall Steve. Huge Steve unprejudiced burned all the bookies with a horse run. But the next hasten, Dreamy Joe is going to lose. So Dismal is taking all book on the bustle. Wretched takes a marker from a gambler who leaves his daughter, Mary Jane, as the marker.

When the father overhears something he shouldn’t, he “disappears”. Gloomy is stuck with Mary Jane. They learn that the father was found in the river and that she is now an orphan.

The racing commission is investigating the speed and Expansive Steve needs a patsy to rush his last Dreamy Joe scam. Downhearted suggests transferring ownership of Dreamy Joe to the Mary Jane. This starts everything into action.

Gladys and Dejected begin to catch attached to Mary Jane. But when the police launch to section together what is happening, Spacious Steve starts to tie up the loose ends. This lands Mary Jane in the hospital with a concussion asking for Dreamy Joe. Unhappy arranges to consume Dreamy Joe and remove him to Mary Jane. Of course, a horse in a hospital is perfect amusing fare for Hope.

As for most Damon Runyon stories, this ends happily in marriage.

The second feature is The Paleface. Jane Russell plays a splendid Calamity Jane. Jane is facing 10 years in prison or she must succor the Feds in stopping guns from getting to the Indians. She is to meet up with a lawyer who will pose as her husband. When she arrives, she finds the lawyer insensible and men waiting for her. She escapes into a ladies bath which the first floor is occupied by Painless Pete Potter (Bob Hope), a novice dentist (read poor) .

In a moment of desperation she hooks up with Painless and marries him. But she is really setting him up to be a target of the smugglers. The smugglers know about the Federal agent but don’t know who it is. Painless leads the wagon utter astray and the state winds up at an abandoned weigh space. The site is attacked by Indians and Jane kills eleven of them but everyone assumes that Painless did it. He becomes a hero.

They come in the town where the sale is going to be made. The abominable guys try to state Painless up but Jane comes to his rescue. Jane and Painless pick up captured and elope. The ending is totally ridiculous but is detached fun. Remember this is a Bob Hope film and reality does not apply!!

By this time Bob Hope had created a hapless personality via his Road films with Bing. This is an extension of that persona. This film won the Oscar for Best Song for Bob Hope’s rendition of Buttons and Bows.

You are either a Bob Hope fan or not. If you are these are two of his best and best leading ladies.

Little need be said here to convince you to choose this disc if you grew up watching these on TV fear shows like I did (and assembling the model kits, buying the mags, they were called mags then, etc.) If you’re unusual to the Universal classics all I can say is what are you waiting for? Universal is thankfully giving us the lesser titles as two-fors, so it really makes buying them fair about irresistable. OK, so Son and Ghost are on the downhill tear after the peak of Bride, but calm far more captivating and well-made (particularly Son) than what typically passes for a movie now. And if you’re a fan of Young Frankenstein, Son is an absolute must-see. You can regain out all about the movies a million other places so I’m talking about the DVD.

First, the friendly news. The prints sight spectacular, even better than those conventional on the previous VHS editions. I don’t know if it’s unprejudiced the increased resolution of DVD or if they did some additional work on the prints, but they are so noteworthy richer and detailed than the pre-records it’s honest splendid. Not to mention that my VHS copy of Son in particular is riddled with dropouts.

The extras are minimal, including chapter stops, talent bios, and a trailer for Ghost (Son’s trailer is mysteriously missing) . What annoys me about this DVD though, and keeps it from a five star review, is the irritating and self-serving device Universal has structured the disc. What I mean is that, besides the obligatory WARNING cloak that we’re now all forced to sit through when we pop in a DVD, on this disc when you press the onscreen “Play the Movie” button, you’re also forced to sit through over a itsy-bitsy of Universal’s marketing twaddle before the genuine movie starts. OK, you can click through it to the opening titles or you can go straight into the movie from the chapter stops hide (an easy enough workaround once you figure it out) but it’s calm mildly annoying how they constantly try to shove this marketing crap in your face. Don’t let this minor gripe end you from buying, it’s impartial a toddle ’cause this disc would be near-perfect otherwise. I am waiting expectantly for all the rest of them. Monolith Monsters on DVD! I can dream can’t I?

I have been a fan of the Universal monsters for as long as I can remember. These movies give us a chance to eye some of the greatest actors of the Universal dismay era (e.g., Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney Jr., Lionel Atwill, Sir Cedwick Harwicke to mention a few.)

In the Son of Frankenstein (sequel to Bride of Frankenstein), we seek Karloff’s last performance as the Frankenstein monster but as in Frankenstein and Bride of, he gives a tremendous performance. I wonder how the series may have been if Karloff had continued in the monster’s role. Basil Rathbone is the son trying to vindicate his father’s name, but Ygor, played by Bela Lugosi, has other plans.

In the Ghost of Frankenstein (sequel to Son of Frankenstein), Lon Chaney Jr. plays the Frankenstein monster and Bela Lugosi again plays Ygor and both are righteous in their roles. It picks up where the Frankenstein monster is discovered in the sulphur pits. Sir Cedric Harwicke wants to dissect the monster but is convince by his father’s ghost to continue with his work. The sequel is Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man.

It is fanatic to have these movies on DVD.

Hot but demure young nurse enters the workforce and everyone (patients and doctors) want to enter her! The Head Nurse has her absorb trysts too. Very hot and profitable for couples, especially if your essential other is a nurse.

This was a decent movie series (two) for this kind of video line. There was a exiguous sage line, but there were also a lot of gloomy situations that the characters are assign in.

I instruct you what these have got to be the funniest 2 movies around, with these characters in it, Rosie is a hoot and the other two Dreyfuss and Sheen oh my heavens, the first one is to die for. Also the dogs are a riot that was the perfect touch. Whoever plan this up and plot up the people and the dogs and of course we can’t forget the kitty in the second one is perfect very friendly casting let me whisper you. With the unpleasant guys your never distinct what will happen very very great movies.

I agree with the other reviews. These are very fun and engaging motion pictures. They never seem to gather passe! Dreyfuss and Estevez have gargantuan chemistry!

This compilation truly has an abundance of riches from the Kirov Ballet’s archives.

The first selection, Natalia Dudinskaya and Konstantin Sergeyev’s Shadowy Swan pdd is somewhat disappointing. The music is radically rearranged and shortened, and this was filmed rather tedious in Dudinskayas career. She’s composed a lightning snappily turner but other than that there’s puny in the plot of characterization.

Things immediately derive better with some truly rare film of the legendary Tamara Karsavina warming up at the barre. This film is intelligent in many ways: although Karsavina is shaped very differently from today’s ballerinas, her technique does not seem at all out-of-date: her developpes are surprisingly high and lightning posthaste.

The third selection is truly a treat: Irina Kolpakova and Vladinen Semenov in the Raymonda pdd. To gawk Kolpakova is truly to glance the famously aristocratic, pure, Vaganova style of dancing. The exquisite map her leg bends ever so slightly in arabesque, her beautiful posture, these are all a joy to explore.

More eccentric is “Vienna Waltzes” choreographed by Leonid Jacobson and performed by Ninel Kurgapkina and Boris Bregvadze. The choreography seems more Fred-and-Ginger than Mariinsky, although the speak effervesence of Kurgapkina is handsome to scrutinize.

On the opposite raze of the spectrum is Jacobson’s Reflection, danced by the long-limbed Alla Osipenko and Anatoli Nisnevitch. This was strangely filmed in a barre classroom, but is quite dramatic and passionate. Osipenko has pretty lines and extension. In her, you can watch the effect of the new ballerina: expansive, long-limbed, dramatic.

Alla Sizova and Rudolf Nureyev’s graduation performance of Le Corsaire’s pdd is next. Here, you can observe Nureyev and Sizova’s fantastic potential. You can examine Sizova’s distinguished athleticism. You can gape Nureyev garnering fervent applause as the slave. In the West, he would obtain this a trademark allotment. But peer the unique here!

Another film of Nureyev (in Laurencia, with Kurgapkina) isnt quite as consuming. Nureyev has a rather irregular wig. Kurgapkina;s turns are very arresting though. Nureyev here already is showing his life-long weakness of bright how to initiate pirouettes but not incandescent how to raze them.

The next selection is rather queer — The Sage of the Serf Nikish. It seems more of a dramatic portion than a dancing allotment. Its chief interest is that you regain to recognize the young Mikhail Baryshnikov dance.

Next up is Natalia Makarova in a horribly soupy (along with a chorus — I kid you not) version of The Dying Swan. Makarova doesnt measure up to the gold standard (Maya Plisetskaya) but you can gawk traces of the colossal Russian ballerina’s famously lyrical, tender style.

I’ll skip comment on the Pas de Quatre because this selection inevitably annoys the crap out of me. Honest my personal prejudice.

“Syrinx” is a solo section, music by Debussy, danced by Alla Osipenko. Again, she shows her very original style. In fact, I dare say some of her off-center balances and style would have made Balanchine drool!

I’m going to again avoid comment on the next two pieces, both Jacobson’s Spartacus. Basically, this ballet and music doesnt mighty interest me. This is different from Grigorivich’s more noted Spartacus. You do gather to contemplate a young Olga Moiseyeva though. Moiseva would later accomplish mountainous fame coaching Kirov superstars like Altynai Asylmuratova and Svetlana Zakharova.

The next selection puzzled me a bit. It’s a solo with Nikita Dolgushin of Romeo and Juliet. Although Dolgushin dances well why not include one of the many noted pas de deux from this ballet?

Alla Osipenko once again dances in the “Ice Maiden,” here partnered by John Markovski. Once again, a very original style from Alla Osipenko. She’s a ballerina that intrigues me greatly now. This fraction really shows off her comely classical line and flexibility.

The Les Sylphides waltz with Gabriella Komleva and Vadim Budarin again shows off the best of the Kirov style: pure, lyrical, with fair expend of arms and abet to recount movement and emotion. That being said, Komleva isnt a dancer that excites me the map Kolpakova, Kurgapkina, or Osipenko do. She seems to lack the last bit of star power.

Speaking of Kurgapkina, she’s next in the Corsaire pdd with Vadim Budarin. Budarin doesn’t have the sheer animal virility of Rudolf Nureyev, but once again Kurgapkina is a joy to contemplate. It’s exciting to compare Sizova/Nureyev with Kurgapkina/Budarin. The Sizova/Nureyev performance was their school graduation performance, and it shows rough spots as well as ample potential. Kurgapkina and Burbarin are grand more polished, but you dont accumulate the same thrill as you procure with Sizova/Nureyev. Burdarin, by the arrangement, is saddled with a truly terrifying baseball cap. Kurgapkina does a beautifl 32 fouettes.

Next is probably this video’s most shapely clip. It’s Galina Ulanova before she left for the Bolshoi dancing the White Swan pdd with Konstantin Sergeyev. You can gaze why Ulanova is aloof held as a standard of pure, gorgeous movement. Some elements of her technique spy outdated today, but her tenderness and purity are timeless.

After the divine Swan Lake pdd, yet another Dying Swan (this time with Olga Moiseyeva) seems almost anti-climactic. Again, Moiseyeva is aesthetic in her gain device, but once you’ve seen Maya Plisetskaya, all other versions seem, well, not as impressive.

And so that’s it. Overall, I’m thrilled to have this diverse, amazing compilation in my ballet collection. There are of course some pieces I could have lived without, but I am unexcited so grateful that dancers I had heard of but never seen (such as Osipenko) are here on this astronomical compilation. The glory of the Kirov, indeed.

This is not a complete ballet, but short pieces from various performances. Ninety minutes of fabulous ballet dancing by “the best”, including Baryshnikov and Nureyev. I was acquainted with the talents of Baryshnikov and admired his grace for years. Sadly, I knew nothing of Rudolf Nureyev until seeing him on public television. Needless to say, I was completely entranced by his grace and wonderful leaps. It also includes, interestingly, ballet exercises c. 1920 in murky and white from that time period. All in all a very toothsome DVD.

There are plenty of DVDs out on the market today with episodes of television shows from the 1950s and 1960s that have fallen into the “public domain.” Many of them are cheaply assign together and, visually, examine it. Not so with releases from the Falcon Portray Group. By and colossal, their releases scrutinize better than the gigantic majority of DVDs with older television shows. The reason for this is that they have done digital restoration of the prints included on this station.

What I like about this DVD is the immense variety of shows included. Yes, some of the shows, like Dragnet, the Lone Ranger, Red Skelton, etc., are available on other DVDs, but they have also included some shows like Racket Squad, Mr. & Mrs. North, and Sea Hunt that are either rarely or never seen on video/DVD. I hadn’t seen Sea Hunt since its syndication bustle in the 1960s. What a substantial expose and, to the best of my knowledge, this is the only episode available anywhere on DVD (wish there were more episodes of Sea Hunt on DVD) .

While this disk is more of a “potpourri” of different types of television shows from the 1950s, Falcon also offers three other DVDs, including ones with television Detectives, Westerns, and Comedies. If you are nostalgic for this vast era in television, these DVDs are the arrangement to go. Highly recommended!
