This disc is graceful. Musically it is a jazz masterpiece. I had my reservations on this one. After purchasing and watching, it is money well, well spent. You perceive each member of this 7 fraction ensemble reading off charts off this improbable Marsalis rep. When it comes time for the solo’s, the eyes are closed the charts are gone and they play with such astonishing improvisation, it is fantastic.

What is a letdown though is when they pan the audience. Most of the folks in the front seemed like they would rather be somewhere else. The others in the help are the ones that hoot and holler. I guess we can figure out who are the “season ticket-holders” and who are the fans on this one. Me myself, I would give anything to breathe in this live performance. I would definitely be out of camera opinion, I guess.
All in all, if you want to peruse a very,very tight band performing a regain that really makes Marsalis stand out…Then this is definitely for y’all. This was a welcome treat to behold. The filming is well done too. They focus in on who is leading at all times. BRILLIANTLY DONE JAZZ PERFORMANCE.
this was filmed in munich in 1992, and is a performance of that entire unbelievable and astounding album…his septet is astonishingly talented, the sound quality is shining and i absolutely recommend this disc, which was released in 2006…savor
