This movie was never intended to feature Shirley Temple as a star. At the time this movie was made, she was a minor child actor who had never been on film before, and had she not subsequently been made illustrious by other movies, her role in this film would have been either forgotten, or relegated to an obscure footnote in the history of American movies. It is totally dishonest of the novel distributors of “Stand Up and Cheer” to give Miss Temple top billing and a photograph on the veil of the VHS. She was not the star of this movie at all! She has a 2-bit allotment in a movie that starred bigger names in Hollywood. But if you are Shirley Temple die hard who must have everything she ever did, lift this film (caveat emptor) . If you are a student of the American cinema, and want to gawk how wonderful (or terrible) an early talkie was, then you should certainly consume this movie, if nothing else for its historical significance. If you want to glimpse rare film footage of “The Princess of American Song” Sylvia Froos (one of the stout voices of the 1930s), Capture THIS VIDEO. But don’t catch this if you are expecting a sweet, polished performance from Miss Temple a la “Heidi”.
I bought this movie mainly because Shirley Temple was going to be in it. From reading some of the reviews, I knew it would not be one of her best. After watching the movie, I realized it was not her acting that was lacking, but the situation of the movie itself. Some aspects of the movie were contemptible, such as the scenes with the murky man playing an idiot and kissing up the white people in the movie (I, as an African American was disgusted) ; however, it must be realized that such things reflected the times in which the movie was made. Also, the movie’s place didn’t really travel along and many times was confusing or slow, although it did do an superb job at showing what that time period was like in America. As for Shirley, her scenes, though few, were the best in the film. I loved the dance routine, but besides those few scenes the movie was not very exquisite. If you want some of Shirley’s better works, I suggest you select Smart Eyes (my personal accepted), Unpleasant Small Rich Girl, or Wee Willie Winkie.

Those of us who enjoyed the 2 itsy-bitsy “snippets” of HD Environments should rejoice at this BD. Outstanding photography of various Pacific beaches from Grand Sur going north to Washington. If your heart belongs to the Ocean, you will be perfectly contented to sit through the whole presentation more than once.
Very nice only thing I didn’t like was the music, wish it was only nature sounds.

Sometimes, first impressions are misleading. When I saw Fonteyn and Nureyev in Swan Lake, I was appalled by the exclusive ending, Nureyev’s interjected solos, the reshuffling of Tchaikovsky’s catch, and the radical reworking of the Petipa/Ivanov choreography. I didn’t explore any of the noted Fonteyn/Nureyev chemistry.
But don’t earn the same mistake I did. Avoid the muddled Swan Lake, and order their Romeo and Juliet today! It’s Kenneth MacMillan’s production, and the romantic pick up by Prokofiev is of course delicate. The corps, unlike the underreheased, tiny Swan Lake corps, have it together. The costumes are handsome.

Most of all, you finally examine the Fonteyn/Nureyev magic. Fonteyn is considerable more splendid to Juliet than Odette/Odile, which requires almost superhuman athleticism from the ballerina. As Juliet, Fonteyn’s grace and charm more than perform up for the fact that at age 46, her leaps aren’t as high and her turns aren’t the fastest. Except for a few unflattering closeups, she peaceful exudes a much girlishness and wide-eyed innocence. Nureyev is also noble — unlike Fonteyn, he was at his peak and his turns and leaps are a survey to contemplate. He got a gradual launch in ballet (17!) and was often criticized for his “unfinished technique” and sometimes in the film you can seek why. For one, he can’t seem to control his pirouettes very well — he can originate them, drag, but can’t neatly ruin them turned out in 4th space (a la Baryshnikov) . Rudolf sometimes overrotates and “cheats” by fast putting down his free leg. Nevertheless, the warmth and ardency he exudes more than compensate for technical defects.
But when Margot and Rudi dance together, they are greater than the sum of their parts. For those feeble to the idealized aloofness of classical ballet, you will be afraid by the intimacy and physicality of Fonteyn and Nureyev. When Nureyev recalled that the two danced with “one body, one soul” it wasnt an exaggeration. It seems like we’re peeping in on a private relationship, not a performance. One particularly gorgeous moment is when Fonteyn and Nureyev at the very beginning of the balcony scene bustle around onstage and bump into each other. Their hands touch, and both shake visibly, as if jolted by electricity. Later on, Nureyev lightly brushes his face in Fonteyn’s nightgown. I dare say it’s hotter than any porn film.
The *only* drawback is the visual quality of the film. There doesnt seem to have been any remastering, and a lot of the film has a grainy search for.

Tonight I watched Romeo and Juliet again, this time with two of my granddaughters. I have seen it with my parents, with my wife and three children, and now with my grandchildren. I attended the movie in Washington, in Boston, and in Albany, NY many years ago. This version has become fraction of my life, as have its stars, Rudolf Nureyev and Margot Fonteyn. Why I have not reviewed it before, I do not know.
This Royal Ballet version of Romeo and Juliet is so sparkling, so spectacular, so animated, and so incrediblly aesthetic that in my understanding there is no other ballet that can compare with it. First there is the poignantly tragic cherish fable of Shakespeare. Add to it the hauntingly expressive, classic-yet-modern music of Prokofiev. Traipse in Kenneth MacMillan’s sensitive and exuberant choreography. And as the supreme touch, have it danced by the most exhilarating male dancer who every performed, in partnership with the most glorious and vulnerable ballernina of the past century. Here you have the masterpiece of all masterpieces. A ballet that puts other ballets to shame with their aged plots and lack of emotional substance.
My two approved scenes are the balcony scene, and the scene where Romeo dances with a humdrum Juliet. The first exudes cherish and passion, as Nureyev and Fonteyn are transported by their new-found appreciate to a height beyond all measure. In the second, your heart freezes and you strain to beget assist tears as Romeo tries to coax the life relieve into Juliet by dancing with her limp but quiet stunning accomplish. There are no touchingly sterling moments such as these in any other ballet I have seen.
The wonderful costumes are genuine of a Zefferelli production, although this is not one, of course. The scenery is adequate but not impressive. But most distinguished, all the dancers communicate a vitality that is convincing and contagious. The swordplay is astonishing in its complexity and realism. Tybolt’s death and his wife’s effort are overdone with fair the good touch of modernity.
But mainly, Nureyev and Fonteyn bring each scene they dance into gleaming flower. And when they dance together something of the mystery and tragedy of their two very different lives comes to the surface and animates their performance, giving it a realism that communicates their deep emotion for each other.
This is heartfelt and heart-wrenching art. When it finishes, one is exhausted and drained, but also inspired and elated that this one-of-a-kind performance was recorded so that one may devour it over and over again.

I was lured into seeing this film by my teenage son, who is a circus acrobat by genetic conviction as surely as Philippe Petit was a high-wire walker and as I am a musician. I would never have entered the theater if I’d known what I’d be seeing. I have a pathologically empathetic response to films. When I was a tiny kid, I musty to yowl out warnings to Tweetie Bird when the cat got come. During fight scenes, my whole body twitches and my wife gets nervous for the safety of the unsuspecting head in front of me. I’m a climber in sincere life. I’ve been to the summit of Annapurna. But my blood pressure rises and I tremble with acrophobia at Hollywood simulations of climbing. This film Man on Wire took two years off my life, I’m certain. It’s that intense, with its coy intersplicing of collected photos and super-eight footage of Petit in mid-air and fair lifeless talking-head interviews of Petit and his accomplices, years later, clearly establishing that they all survived to mutter the narrative.

Those interviews of middle-aged daredevils, reminiscing about their greatest caper, were as intense for me as the dodgy accomplishment of the adventure. It was literally the destroy of a like affair with life for all of them, something “too hot not to cold down,” an overture too overwhelming to be followed by a mere opera. When Petit’s boyhood friend broke down in tears at the waning of their friendship, when Petit’s wife-the-love-of-his-life felt the reality that his life no longer needed hers, the whole social cost of Petit’s obsession moved me also almost to tears. Hey, I might have cried if my heart had slowed down to twice normal. I felt an rush to grab my son and hug or shake him, saying “don’t let your art be more to you than your life.”
There’s more to this film than a mere victimless heist thriller.
Let me space upfront that I am a sucker for ample non-fiction documentaries. I’ve always believed that life is stranger than fiction. And this is objective the last (and perhaps best) example of it.

“Man on Wire” (98 min.) tells the fantastic account of Phillipe Petit’s dream (and eventual reality) of walking on a high wire between the two WTC buildings on August 7, 1974. The movie starts with his humble beginngins of being a street artist, eventually leading to his wanting to do high wire walks, starting with the Paris Notre Dame, then the Sidney Harbor, and then eventually the World Trade Center Towers. The movie does an fine job building the excitement into what it took to eventually pull off that implossible event. All of the main players of the event are interviewed now more than 30 years after the event, and Philippe Petit turns out to be a master entertainer and myth teller. When you are watching it all unvolve, you can’t but encourage be in horror of it all. Unprejudiced exilerating, period.
If this movie doesn’t gain serious consideration of being nominated for best documentary of 2008 at the Oscars, there is something terribly gross with the entire system. This is one of the most engrossing movies I’ve seen this year, and I’ve seen a lot of movies.

Just got this out of the cellophane! Two days is amazingly fast service. This does have the collectable toys in it. This time it is Togusa, completing the Laughing Man logo obnoxious with Batou and Motoko. There is also a dusky Tachikoma. It is two disks. Two more releases and this series will be complete!
This is what you would seek information from from the team that makes this awsome film and series! Visuals are as always, Top notch in the anime world, with idea provoking tale lines, that earn it so you can’t wait to survey the next episode in the series. If you like you anime like i do with realistic looking charaters, and impartial alaround friendly damn movie. you have to have this in your collection, along with the whole series!

MOGAMBO is a remake of the 1932 classic “Red Dust”, based on Wilson Collison’s Broadway play. John Lee Mahin re-tooled his current screenplay, and Clark Gable returned to reprise his role of a rubber plantation owner (Dennis Carson in “Red Dust”, but called Victor Marswell in the remake) .

Clark Gable’s performamce is fantastic. How often does an actor have the opportunity of revisiting a character 20 years later, and consume their maturity and experience to flesh out the role to a greater extent than they did before? In “Red Dust”, Gable was pretty, but here in MOGAMBO, he is positively magnetic.
Ava Gardner plays Eloise Kelly (`Honey Bear’) who battles with crisp Linda Nordley (Grace Kelly) for the affections of Victor. Gardner is more than a match for Jean Harlow; and Grace Kelly, in one of her first colossal principal roles, is unbelievable in the allotment originally taken by Mary Astor. Filmed on dwelling in Africa, director John Ford brings a lot more action and cinematic thrill to the memoir, but the central love-trilogy remains the focus. Highly-recommend, but if you haven’t seen “Red Dust”, I recommend that as well.
Mogambo was essentially a convoluted worship tale dwelling against the radiant and picturesque backdrop of the African savannah.
A somewhat feeble looking Clark Gable in his typical macho style played Victor Marswell a safari leader and procurer of wild animals for zoos and circuses based in Kenya. Arriving at Gable’s complex unexpectedly in search of a recently departed maharajah is the raven haired beauty Ava Gardner. Gardner, a wordly chorus girl from Unusual York and Gable imediately hit it off. Things are proceeding swimmingly until the arrival of the next safari clients, the Nordleys. Professor Nordley played by Donald Sinden is an anthropologist alive to in gorillas. His wife the prim, trustworthy and splendid Grace Kelly rues her loveless marriage and is smitten with Gable. Gable returns her advances and soon we are in the midst of a like quadrangle.

The heat is turned up as the group goes on safari to gorilla country and passions percolate. All the while they are fleeing from hostile natives, chasing a plethora of wild and exotic animals and travelling through some of the most scenic country imaginable.
The interplay among the main characters as well as the supporting cast was very comical. The settings and cinematography was first rate. The satisfying conclusion ties up the situation into a super tiny package.

Quick – can you name a movie that has Ben Stiller, Patrick Swayze, Helen Hunt, Liam Neeson, Bill Paxton, and Adam Baldwin in it? Probably not, as most people can’t, and what a shame. “Next Of Kin” is a radiant portrayal of the “Eastern Mountain Plot” as well as the adore of family and the bond of brothers.
I enjoyed this movie greatly. Although the dwelling has been somewhat rehashed many times the performances here waddle emotion. Especially Liam Neeson’s. If not for his performance in this movie I probably would have given it 4 stars, but he shines brightly here. The loyalty and esteem of his character combined with the contempt and inflame of his character, what a huge performance.
When this movie first came out I didn’t even know it. I don’t know how it fell off the radar veil before ever being noticed but it is cerainly worth a spy.

In terms of unprejudiced pure station, Next of Kin is — in many ways — a typical example of the unconventional cop vs. the mob film genre of the 1980s…However, if Next of Kin is ultimately a genre portion, its unruffled a better-than-average example of the what the genre is ample of. Certainly, its probably the only film ever made by Patrick Swayze that can legitimately be called underrated.
Plotwise, the film sounds almost like a parody. Patrick Swayze is a outmoded hillbilly from Appalacia Country who has left gradual his rustic family to become a spacious city cop and to romance sophisticated music teacher Helen Hunt. (Is there a reason why spacious city cops with simple backgrounds always seem to extinguish up romancing music teacers in these films? ) Swayze’s younger brother Bill Paxton also comes to the city, to pursue a life of petty crime that ends up getting him killed by mobster Adam Baldwin which leads to yet another Swayze brother coming down to the city, this one played by Liam Neeson. As Neeson seeks revenge, Swayze is forced to return to his roots in order to avenge both his brother and protect his girlfriend.
Yet somehow, all of this works rather effectively on hide. The film is directed by Englishman John Irvin who has made a rather unsung career out of bringing a stronger-than-usual sense of characterization to genre films (the best example being the war film Hamburger Hill) . Although Irvin’s filming of the action scenes are a miniature pedestrian, he collected has a strong visual sense and manages to vividly inequity the conflicting worlds of the country and the city. The film’s supporting cast is well chosen and both the heroes and the villians all near to life with a surprising amount of dignity. At no point do any of the actors demean their roles by playing …typical hillybillys or, for that matter, …typical mobsters and that shows an original and admirable amount of integrity for a film of this sort. Paxton isn’t on shroud long but remains, as always, a likeable presence and Adam Baldwin makes a compellingly understandable and hissable villian. Michael J. Pollard shows up as a hillbilly and brings his trademark quirkiness to the proceedings while the role of the nerdy mob scion is played by Ben Stiller, of all people. Its a puny jarring to perceive Stiller present up on veil (especially playing an essentially villianous role) yet he gives a strong performance without resorting to do any standard Stiller bits. Helen Hunt’s role is …typical but she’s probably far warmer in this role than she’s been in any of her prestige pictures. Certainly, the best performance in the film is given by Liam Neeson who dominates the proceedings with the grim sincerity he brings to his quest for revenge. This Irish actor also manages to perfectly rob the modern accent of the Appalacian status. As an actor, Patrick Swayze has always been puny and he’s always been better at projecting sincerity than complexity. Luckily, his role in Next of Kin has been designed to require shrimp more of him than sincerity and, if Next of Kin doesn’t narrate his best performance, its certainly his most likeable.

Next of Kin isn’t a enormous film. As stated before, the record is a tad bit too predictable and that’s only made more certain when the anecdote is populated by a better-than-average cast and directed by a truly talented director. However, this is a rare genre portion in which it is definite that everyone interested actually effect in their best efforts to effect a worthwhile film and the results are both admirable and though-provoking.

Was the Wolf framed? Is there more to Red-Riding Hood than her eager deductive ability and her hood? “HOODWINKED” asks these questions in a film more family ample than SHREK. Positive, comparison to the SHREK films in unavoidable when twisting fairy tales. But Hoodwinked has it’s enjoy style, although it is a less slick style than Pixar or Dreamworks. Unbiased with more quirky songs and more awkward charm.

HOODWINKED,is a FRACTURED FAIRY Sage in the spirit of Jon Scieszka’s The Apt Myth of the Three Slight Pigs. The movieopens like a customary telling of Red-Riding Hood,with “Red” voiced by Anne Hathaway taking goodies to Granny, voiced by Glenn Conclude, she finds the wolf, a woodsman (Jim Belushi) leaps in with an ax…..then the police near. The best Of these retellings are by the Wolf, voiced by Patrick Warburton, and Granny. The Wolf reveals that he is an undercover reporter who not only dresses like Chevy Chase’s Fletch, but he shares Fletch’s disguise kit and soundtrack. Warburton plays the Wolf perfectly in every scene. Granny’s retaling parodies “XXX” in her taste for crude sports is revealed. Other distinguished voices and cameos by Andy Dick, David Ogden Stiers and Xzbit.
The film is loaded with sizable one-liners, pop references and gags that will appeal to all-ages.

this is a spruce clever rewrite of puny red riding hood with all sorts of zany characters and twists on the unusual. it’s droll, fast-paced and amazingly no violence, sex or profanity. Generous job!

Angel Sanctuary’s OVA covers only the beginning of this amazing Manga. However,the Manga is more sparkling & more detailed. The OVA leaves you unfulfilled because it introuduces you to the narrative then you have to go to the Manag to continue it.
This has such an arresting narrative. I understanding I’d be save off by the siblings treasure, but it was really intelligent. Really packed a lot in for a movie. The only jam, is it doesn’t yelp the whole tale it stops suddenly. Made me actually weep in places. (Attractive hard to do.) Loved it though!
